Frequently asked questions
General
Q1: Do I need any prior aviation experience to fly a paramotor or join a course?A: No prior aviation or paragliding experience is required! Whether you are booking a Tandem Introductory Flight or enrolling in our Transport Canada Paramotor Pilot Certification Course, Chief Instructor Manny Morales will guide you step-by-step from ground fundamentals to your first solo flight.Q2: What is the difference between Paragliding and Powered Paragliding (Paramotor / PPG)?A: Standard paragliding relies entirely on thermals and wind currents from hills or mountains to stay airborne. Powered Paragliding (PPG) uses a light, backpack-style engine and propeller mounted on your back (or on a wheeled trike). This engine allows you to take off from flat grassy fields anywhere in Ontario, climb to custom altitudes, cruise across scenic landscapes, and stay airborne for hours.Q3: Is powered paragliding safe?A: Yes. Powered paragliding is widely considered one of the safest forms of personal aviation. Because your wing is an inflated parachute, you are flying under a fully open canopy at all times. In the rare event of engine failure, the paramotor simply becomes a standard paraglider, allowing you to glide down smoothly and safely for a gentle landing on open ground.Q4: Are there age or physical weight limits for paramotor flight?A:Tandem Flights: Passengers must be at least 14 years old (with parental consent) and weigh under 220 lbs (100 kg) for optimal wing launch capacity and safety.Pilot training: Students may be as young as 14 years old to start training, however, in order to obtain and hold a Transport Canada Student Pilot Permit students may be 16 years of age. Students should be in good general health and capable of jogging with ~50 lbs of gear for foot-launch training.
